If you want a simple spring project or a hostess gift, this Lavender Chocolate Chunk Cookie Mix in a Jar is easy to assemble and delicious to bake. We were inspired to add a custom ribbon and label to each jar using a ribbon and tape printer, which makes each gift feel special.

Customized ribbon or tape is a lovely finishing touch. You can print a short message, list ingredients, or add the recipient’s name. Choose different fonts or designs for each jar to make every gift unique.

This tool lets you control ribbon length, font, and layout so you can create one-of-a-kind packaging quickly. It’s become one of my favorite ways to finish a handmade gift.

I’ve seen cookie mix jars in stores and always wanted to make my own. I was also keen to adapt the popular shortbread-style cookies with a floral twist by adding lavender and chocolate for a fresh flavor combination.

Cookie Mix in a Jar – A Charming Gift

Cookie mixes in jars make thoughtful gifts and encourage someone to take a little time to bake. By layering quality dry ingredients, you create an attractive and practical present—then the recipient only needs to add the wet ingredients, which for this recipe are just butter and vanilla.

Lavender and Chocolate – The Perfect Pairing

We added a touch of lavender to a shortbread-style cookie and adjusted a few measurements. The result is wonderfully balanced—floral, buttery shortbread with rich chocolate chunks.

This jar mix pairs semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate with the delicate floral notes of lavender. Lavender’s sweet, fragrant flavor complements many ingredients including berries, citrus, honey, and herbs—plus, of course, chocolate.

If you enjoy lavender in baking, try other lavender recipes to explore how the flavor enhances both sweet and savory dishes.

To assemble the jars, use 1-liter glass jars with lids. Layer the dry ingredients starting with the flour on the bottom, then packed light brown sugar, a sprinkle of lavender, granulated sugar, and top with chopped chocolate chunks. Only the dry ingredients from the recipe go into the jar.

Print and attach the printable recipe cards and labels to each jar. A custom ribbon adds a polished look—choose a font and border that match the style of your gift.

We used a satin-style ribbon and printed the cookie name with a decorative border for a sweet finishing touch. The printable recipe card makes it easy for the recipient to bake the cookies right away.
