Classic Caramel Corn Recipe for Perfect Crunch and Flavor

This recipe was originally titled My Amish Friend’s Caramel Corn, but I don’t have any Amish friends, so I changed the name. I’m not sure what specifically makes it “Amish” aside from its origin in an Amish family, but the result is a classic, reliable caramel corn that’s simple to make and delicious to share.

Tip from the past: In high school home economics we used a brown grocery bag to shake popcorn coated with caramel instead of stirring it in a bowl. When I went to buy Karo syrup for this recipe, I asked the store clerk for a brown bag to reproduce that method. Using the bag worked great and cut down on cleanup, which is always a bonus.

The caramel coating stays crisp for days when stored in an airtight container, so this makes a convenient treat for parties, gifts, or snacking over several days.

Many thanks to the Amish family who passed this recipe along. Enjoy!
