“When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers ’tis near Halloween.”
Ingredients Needed For A Halloween Monster Burger
You’ll need a few basic ingredients to build your monsters. Substitute or add items to match tastes and dietary needs.
- Ground beef (or your preferred burger blend)
- Sesame seed hamburger buns (seeds look like little warts for effect)
- Bacon
- Muenster cheese (or another white, melty cheese)
- Sandwich dill pickles (long wedges make great tongues)
- Spanish olives (with pimentos for eyes)
- Ketchup or marinara sauce for “blood” and extra flair
Consider Chili Peppers For An Adult Option
If you want to add heat, use a roasted hatch or poblano pepper for the tongue. It gives the burger a spicy kick and another dramatic element to the presentation.
How To Form A Monster Burger
Assembling a monster burger is simple and fun. Start by forming patties to your preferred thickness and cook them to your desired doneness.
Stack slices of Muenster cheese and cut the edges into triangular “teeth” so the cheese melts over the sides like fangs. Lay a pickle wedge on the patty with a little overhang to act as a tongue — cutting a small “V” at the tip makes it look serpent-like.
Add olives on toothpicks for bulging eyes and bacon strips for eyebrows. Use ketchup or marinara to let a little “ooze” drip for a dramatic, spooky effect. Make each burger uniquely scary and have fun with the details.
The Key To Making Monster Burgers
Don’t worry about perfection — character is the goal. These burgers are meant to look a little wild. Add carrot tips for horns, parsley for a hairdo, or extra olives and toothpicks for more googly eyes. Dribble ketchup, smear green relish, or arrange garnishes on the plate to create playful “innards” and spooky accents.
